Description

WOW! That's Engineering! Aims to introduce the Next Generation to STEM Principles

WOW! That’s Engineering! is the Society of Women Engineers annual SWE event, which hosts over 100 kids from Tuscaloosa and the surrounding areas. The goal of this event is to introduce students to STEM principles and spark curiosity and passion for the world around them. SWE also holds a program for the parents, where they can hear from speakers about supporting their child in their pursuit of STEM, as well as speakers from the University about operations, admissions, and affordability. SWE is raising money to help cover activity materials, lunch, t-shirts, swag, and educational resources for the children participating.

What is the purpose of your group?

The purpose of our group is to empower women to reach their full potential as engineers and leaders, while promoting the engineering profession as a positive force for improving quality of life. We strive to foster a supportive community, champion the value of diversity, and serve as a motivating source for women pursuing careers in engineering. Additionally, we are committed to giving back and making an impact in the community around us.

HEAR FROM PARENTS:

“The kids like the activities. I liked learning about all the areas where engineering is relevant and about programs for students. Mine are too young for early college, but it is good to learn about it for when they get to high school.”

“Opportunity to be hands on and the interaction with others of the same age with similar interests”

“They both enjoyed learning about energy and how it can be made in different ways.”
