Alabama REACH: Creating educational equity for foster and homesless youth.

Students with a history of foster care or homelessness face exceptional barriers to enrollment, persistence and graduation in higher education. Barriers to graduation include food insecurity and housing instability, as well as low levels of social, emotional and financial support. To combat these barriers, the Alabama REACH Support Fund provides students with:

  • Individualized academic and emotional support from a designated staff member
  • Peer support groups
  • Mental health support groups
  • Access to a food pantry and emergency funds
  • Endowed scholarships and other financial aid assistance
  • Professional development workshops
  • Mentoring programs
  • Housing assistance
  • Referrals to needed resources
  • Intensive case management services
  • And most importantly, a community of accepting peers

Alabama REACH is designed to help students bridge information gaps and challenges common to foster/homeless youth. Supplying information and facilitating opportunities for these students can transform challenges and create opportunities that lead to graduation and a successful life beyond it. Together, we can break down barriers and provide Alabama REACH scholars with the resources they need to prosper and grow during their college years -- an opportunity that every student deserves.

Alabama REACH is currently serving 100 students.
